Although this isn't the most fanciest photograph of a nice horse, it is a great picture (and quite technically correct) shot of Mike Mulligan, a just-turned 3 year old purebred Connemara pony on his 90th day of training. Mike came to me knowing how to lunge, but only held a bit in his mouth just a few times. After proceeding through my program of work, using classical methods, Mike turned out to be a wonderful animal to work with. He is also broke to ride, and has been show on in Pony Club events on the flat and over fences with a 14 year old astride him.
Mike is an intelligent animal, as a now 4 year old, standing 14.1 hands high, he still likes to play, but when you put that harness on him… he is all business! What a wonderful combination. Mike stands still when you hitch him (I hitch him by myself all the time), and he walks off in a very relaxed manner.
He has such character along with his excellent confirmation causing him to have a natural up-hill way of going. As you can see from the photograph, he drives outside, in an indoor arena, on the trail by himself or with other horses. He is a very friendly but a hearty horse and deals very well with the heat of the summer. He plays well with others too.
I could see Mike becoming a high-level contender in the Combined Driving world or in the Distance Driving venue. Mike has been started on some cones work, and shows such athleticism and courage, especially in his tight turning.
With his coloring and confirmation, I could also see Mike Mulligan hitched to a beautiful pony Phaeton in the pleasure driving ring. The asking price on Mike is $4K.
